This is my final edition of my typeface, thanks for some advices from Tatiana that I could make changes on the size of the birds, the sharpness and the thickness of the feather, and also the connection between each skeletons of the letters, they now looked much better especially with thicker strokes and enlarging the birds size, I realised its all about making a fatter feather brush too.
Level design (digital version)
This is my digitalised level design, I first image traced my hand drawn level design(without colouring) onto illustrator, then made a new layer under the level design lines layer, and I started using pen stools to colour on it, when I finished colouring I added some shadows on it to make the foreground and background look more obvious. I recognised the digital version of my level design looks more “childlike” than my hand drawn one, I have also spent double times on the digitalised one as there were a lot more things needed to be edit when it turns digitally.
My game design character
This character is designed for my level design, she is the main character of my game, a high school student who is ready to get into a brand new adventure of her life, migrating to a foreign country to start over her study. I spent literally 4 hours in total for this character as this is my first time drawing an animation character digitally, so I have also spent some time to adapt and get used to using illustrator to draw it out with my drawing pad. My neck got so tired after drawing this out but when I looked at the finished character design I think it worths my time and energy, haha.
Publication cover design

I named my publication as “Identity”, directly tell the theme of my location to the readers. There are two colours in my publication only, as I wanted to bring up the contrast of my illustrations and wanted to just put the focus onto the black coloured part, using positive and negative space. I drew a feather with birds fading away at the end of it, to emphasis my concept here, I put it beside the title and made it like its writing the letter “identity” out. I have also drew a girl looking up to a bird, which represent myself, once was lost and striving for my life in a foreign country.
My final typeface design

I am developing my 3+2 typeface design into 26, applying the element of a bunch of birds and a feather for each letterform. I first drew the skeletons of the letterforms according to the Bodoni font skeletons, then dress them with the feather calligraphic brush, but not all of them looked good after making them into feather, so I have to use the mouse to make some adjustment on them. Then I drew some small birds out, and made them into art brushes, drawing them into each of the letterform’s tails and serifs, making a fading away effect for them.
I got surprised with the result of this set of letterforms, I thought that it would be so hard to make them as how I wanted them to look like, but it was not it, its more about spending time on it.
Sketches of publications design

In my publication, I will put more images and illustrations than texts. As to enable the readers to visually know more about my location and my concepts of my typeface designs (concrete poems, poster, photographs and panorama).
There are two main themes about my locations and they are “identity” and “sense of belonging”. The title will be named as “identity” instead of “sense of belonging” as sense of belonging was what I feel in this place, but identity was why I found in this place, which has more fundamental influence to my main focus and can reinforce my concept about this place.
The layout and the girds of my publications could be better as I think I don’t have a set of regular grids in it.
The cover of my publication design will mainly colored as black and white, as to strengthen the main theme of my typeface using positive and negative space.
Formative presentation
Timeline and self-directed schedule
-Produce more digital experimentations of my refinement, to test which design can show my idea out more obviously and clearly.
-Start using my designed letterforms to make posters, to test which kind of layout fits my letterforms the best.
-Choose no more than 3-4 kinds grids to work on my publication, as to make my publication looks more regular and unified.
-Start putting images to layout my publication.

Bodoni typeface poster

I was playing around with the layout of the text – Bodoni, and size of the text and also the transparence of the letters, I recognised that the colour matching of the poster is important too, it is better to make some contrast between the colours otherwise the letters could not stand out well. This poster looks simple but it took me a while to finish as I have been testing the sizes and the layout of the letters for so long, especially those big letters in the background.
