Indesign grids and layout draft

After sketching the grids on the sheet, we gotta make real grids on InDesign to test which type of grid suits for the layout for our publication. There are few problems I found in my layout, first of all I put too many words which doesn’t leave enough white space in the pages, secondly I think the grid that I have chosen is too traditional in which gives limitations on designing my publication.

Sketches of grid

First task of sim 2, sketches of grid. Which I haven’t done that before in my group’s publication as I contributed more on taking photographs so I didn’t know much about the functions about InDesign like guides. I think this is a really new and necessary experience for me as it is important to know how to use grids as a design (although I am still far from being a designer lol). This task is useful for doing layout and positioning.

Notes dropped during the lessons.

Publication printing process

At this stage, we have already finished all the editing works on indesign and were ready to do the printings.

At first we printed on a normal A4 paper to test and to make sure that the printing is fine.

Then after few times of printing on the normal A4 papers, we started printing on the actual 200gsm papers. Guess what happened, the printer jammed the papers and printed in black and white colour as well as not printed double-sided, we all got quite upset because we used all the papers we have prepared for printing and we have to go back home to get the papers to print again on Monday. xD

And today we finally get enough papers and could print them out and do binding for our publication.

First publication printing & Laser cutting experience

I have done my first printing of my publication cover yesterday on a 300gsm paper. However the printed words on the paper wasn’t being printed successfully as the paper is too thick, therefore we might consider to use 250gsm paper to print next time.
After doing the printing of our publication cover, Tatiana helped us to make a publication envelope and to laser cut it. I have learnt some short cut of using illustrator as well.

Final photographs for my group publication

These are the final photos my group has chosen to put in our publication, it was really hard to take photos with people as some of them were actually refusing to face the camera or would avoid the camera. But some of them were quite nice, I asked whether I could take photos for them when they were having random chat with each other and thankfully they said yes. Although I did not taken many photographs with the people, I think I have improved my communication skills with the strangers and have taken much more courages to achieve this mission.

Photographing the campus part 2

New photos taken for my group’s publication, I was trying to take as many photos with the people walking around the campus but unfortunately the weather wasn’t as ideal as i thought therefore there were only few people hanging there. Moreover, I was too shine to ask for proper photos of their faces talking with each other, so I will try my best to take as many photos of the people I can, to jump out of my box as those photos are needed for my publication with the theme “human and nature”.
